The Defense of Marriage Coalition has submitted and paid for an "Argument in Favor" of Constitutional Amendment 36 in the Oregon Voters' Pamphlet that was written by House Majority Leader Wayne Scott.
He begins by saying that Oregon Revised Statutes states that marriage is by males 17 years of age and females 17 years of age. "The statute couldn't be more clear," he claims. That's true. All this statute says is that males are required to be 17 and females are required to be 17 in order to marry. It clearly says absolutely nothing about "one man one woman."
But the real gem of this argument comes at the very end: "It is important to affirm what we all thought was already in the Oregon Constitutionmarriage is a sacred covenant between one man and one man."
Is he serious? Or is it a divinely inspired Freudian slip?
Either way, it proves our belief that God has a really wicked sense of humor when it comes to exposing religious hypocrites!
